Is the buoyancy rating important, and what does it mean?Updated 2 months ago

  • Yes, buoyancy rating (usually given in Newtons, e.g. 45N, 53N, 60N) indicates how much upward force the jacket provides. The higher the rating, generally the more float/support, which matters for heavier weights, or rougher water or open water conditions.
